Clarins continues to move forward with its CSR strategy, becoming an official member of the UEBT

It all began in Paris on March 15, 1954, when Jacques Courtin-Clarins opened his first Clarins Institute with the pioneering belief that well-being and happiness were inextricably linked to beauty – a daring holistic vision that he was the first to express and apply. At the same time, celebrities were beginning to unveil their bodies on the covers of magazines. The era of physical and mental freedom was dawning – a revolution in which Jacques Courtin-Clarins played an important role by telling women, “Yes, you are beautiful!”.

In France, where skin care has always been paramount, his success was immediate. Word soon spread and Clarins products became available worldwide. Today, Clarins continues to design and produce its products in France and remains faithful to its original philosophy – listening to women (and men!) to truly understand their needs, and developing safe, natural and highly effective skin care products.

Starting with it in 1954, Clarins will always choose a natural ingredient over a chemical one, if it delivers the same level of effectiveness. This is the golden rule that all Clarins researchers follow when designing their innovative new products.

The French Maison uses over 250 natural plant extracts in its formulas. All are carefully selected for their effectiveness and are delivered in an optimal formula to reveal the beauty of every woman and man. Each ingredient is sourced with the utmost care for the environment to protect our planet’s biodiversity.

Clarins is committed to respecting nature and protecting biodiversity. They support local communities and purchase their raw materials in accordance with fair trade principles. They respect current and future generations. As a consumer and a global citizen, they hope that you share their commitment to protecting the environment.

On 10th December 2021, Clarins became an official member of Union for Ethical Biotrade (UEBT). This recognizes our company’s commitment to sourcing that always respects biodiversity and people.

This membership is a step. By accepting us, UEBT recognizes the attention we give to the quality of our sourcing. But above all, it requires us to continually do even more. And luckily we happen to share this goal of continued progress in sourcing that respects people and the planet. There is no approach more coherent with the double promise of Clarins We Care: ‘care for people, care for the planet’.

Virginie Courtin-Clarins, Deputy Managing Director of Clarins Group

Created in 2007, UEBT brings together companies who wish to engage in ethical sourcing of their ingredients of natural origin. Partner of the United Nations Convention for biological diversity, this international NGO promotes best practices and encourages each of its members to do even more in sourcing supplies that respect biodiversity and people.

Respect of ethical criteria

This initiative of Clarins with UEBT began at the end of 2019. Becoming a member firstly supposes demonstrating that a company like ours respects the ethical criteria of a fair relationship, in particular through the sharing of benefits, a sustainable socio-economic commitment and the preservation of ecosystems.

An action plan to do even more

This required minimum is just a starting point: being a member of UEBT also and above all means being committed to doing even better tomorrow.

To confirm its member status, in 2021 Clarins defined an action plan which will be reviewed every three years. On the agenda are different measures which will ensure continued progress in human and environmental ethics : sustainability and conservation of biodiversity, the fair and equitable sharing of value, the respect of people’s rights and socio-economic sustainability, etc. Our Responsible Sourcing Charter and 2025 commitment to 100% sustainable sourcing are naturally at the heart of our initiative with UEBT.

Always ready to listen, do more and do better. This is the Clarins story.

Clarins donate 30,000 moisturizing creams to hospitals

Clarins-Corona-01

Day and night, the hands of healthcare professionals provide care and help, bring hope and comfort. This routine is hard on the hands, the skin suffers and becomes dry.

In the upcoming weeks, as a way of supporting these professionals in their fight against the epidemic, we will donate 30,000 moisturizing creams to hospitals.

Olivier Courtin-Clarins

The French Maison have already produced and offered more than 18,000 bottles of hand sanitizer to AP-HP, Assistance Publique – Hôpitaux de Paris and hospitals in the Ile-de-France region. From now until the end of April, Clarins will produce 100 tons of hand sanitizer. In the next few days, they will do everything they can to respond to the demand from other hospitals across the world.

Clarins-Corona-02

Clarins also wanted to allow their customers to contribute to this wave of solidarity. On their French website, they can donate €1 to support hospitals.

Thank you to our Production, Research and Development teams, our suppliers and carriers, who have also been supplied with hand sanitizer so that they too can continue protecting themselves. Without them, none of this would be possible ❤️.

Olivier Courtin-Clarins

Clarins donated hand sanitizers

Clarins-Corona-00

Due to the increasing number of coronavirus patients, hospitals are experiencing shortages of important supplies, such as hand sanitizer. Many hospitals are even asking for and accepting donations of N95 masks and other supplies.

To help fight against the spread of COVID-19, major beauty companies, like Clarins, are now starting to repurpose their manufacturing facilities to make hand sanitizer.

During this international health crisis related to the Covid-19, as a socially responsible company, French Maison Clarins have decided that their industrial sites in Pontoise as well as in Strasbourg and Amiens will help deliver hand sanitizer to French hospitals.

A big THANK YOU to our production and R&D teams as well as hospitals staff for their engagement amid these exceptional circumstances! Thanks to them, to our suppliers and carriers, we are proud to be able to do our part, in line with values we have always stood for. Take care of yourself and your loved ones ❤️.

L’Oréal to buy Mugler and Azzaro from Clarins

loreal-paris

In 1909, Eugène Paul Louis Schueller, a young French chemist of German descent, developed a hair dye formula called Oréale. Schueller formulated and manufactured his own products, which he then decided to sell to Parisian hairdressers. On 31 July 1919, Schueller registered his company, the Société Française de Teintures Inoffensives pour Cheveux (Safe Hair Dye Company of France). The guiding principles of the company, which eventually became L’Oréal, were research and innovation in the field of beauty. In 1920, the company employed three chemists. By 1950, the team was 100 strong; by 1984 was 1,000 and is nearly 82,000 today.

L’Oréal got its start in the hair-colour business, but the company soon branched out into other cleansing and beauty products. L’Oréal currently markets over 500 brands and thousands of individual products in all sectors of the beauty business: hair colour, permanents, hair styling, body and skin care, cleansers, makeup and fragrance. In the years L’Oréal build a large portofolio of brands like: Lancôme, Helena Rubinstein, Biotherm, Kiehl’s, Giorgio Armani Beauté, Yves Saint Laurent Beauté, Viktor & Rolf, Cacharel, Maison Margiela and Ralph Lauren Fragrances, to name just a few.

And now L’Oréal is in exclusive negotiations to acquire perfume brands Mugler and Azzaro from Clarins Group, the French beauty giant announced this morning.

The perfume category is at the heart of our global strategy for growth at L’Oréal Luxe. In this context, we would be thrilled to welcome Mugler and Azzaro: these signatures, with a long history in fashion and olfaction, would perfectly complete our portfolio of brands.

Cyril Chapuy, President of L’Oréal Luxe

L’Oréal has not confirmed the financial details of the planned acquisitions, other than that the deal is currently under discussion and subject to approval from regulators.
The purchase is expected to be completed later in the year.
L’Oréal’s prestige perfume has seen strong growth in recent years with the commercial success of Lancôme’s La Vie est Belle (one of the best-selling fragrances in Europe and the US), Yves Saint Laurent’s Black Opiumand Giorgio Armani’s Sì Passione and Acqua di Giò Absolu.

The firm’s Luxe Division grew by 10% in 2018. However, the brand owner has seen its mass brands category struggle last year, particularly in Western Europe.

Clarins unveils new beauty farm in the Alps

Le-Domaine-Clarins.jpg

Maison Clarins has set up home in the Alps for the next stage of its beauty developmental strategy. The French beauty brand has acquired 200,000 acres in the region, which it has dubbed ‘Le Domaine Clarins’. The purpose of the natural farm and laboratory is to carry out biodiversity studies and cultivate plants for use in the brand’s skincare and makeup formulas.

As a scientist, I am very vigilant about the quality of natural ingredients and the way these ingredients are extracted. Le Domaine Clarins gives us a chance to obtain the best ingredients while preserving the environment.

Dr. Olivier Courtin-Clarins

Le Domaine Clarins — which sits at 4,500 ft altitude, meaning it benefits from an optimal microclimate for growing vegetation — is a long-term project that will allow the company to grow seasonal plants in an organic, natural fashion in pollution-free soil. According to a press release, the company’s long-term goal is to facilitate ‘an owned 100% field to jar production’.

Le Domaine Clarins will also feature a ‘Collection Garden,’ a space dedicated to new plant experimentation, where scientists will endeavor to find new properties to enrich the brand’s beauty offerings. Research findings will be added to the Clarins Herbarium, which already contains 250 plants.

Clarins has its roots in the natural world — the brand was founded in 1954 by Jacques Courtin-Clarins with a line of 100% pure plant extract oils. But the company isn’t the only major beauty player to be seeking inspiration from the world of permaculture lately: in January, it was announced that Garnier had teamed up with the ecological NGO Fondation GoodPlanet to work with French farmers on developing agroforestry in tandem with the French Agroforestry Association.

Multi-masked with Clarins SOS Masks

Clarins-SOS-Masks-GIF.gif

I have been known to go to bed wearing nothing but a face mask  – ok, ok, and a few drop of serum – and for good reason! It’s a great way to give your skin an instant pick-me-up with the benefits healing plant extracts and ultra-rich oils offer.

One face mask will not sort all of your skin issues. I have quite dry and dehydrated skin but am prone to a few breakouts on my chin. A hydrating mask won’t do my chin any favours so what do I do? Apparently Multi-mask!

Have you Multi-masked yet?

There are a plethora of face masks on beauty counters right now and one French Maison has three to choose from. The latest trio of face masks is from Clarins.

Clarins have created a new range of masks to compliment your current skincare routine. Plus, you can add your skin boosters for that extra lift to leave you looking your best. Just because I added the Energy Booster to my SOS Comfort mask, doesn’t mean that you’ll do the same, after all, our skin has different needs. For dry, dehydrated or problematic complexions, here’s how the latest SOS Mask range works.

Soothing – Clarins SOS Mask Comfort

Clarins-SOS-Mask-Comfort-Banner.jpgProtective skin care that calms and soothes the driest skin. An ultra-rich balm in a nourishing mask that softens and comforts the skin in just 10 minutes.

For deeply nourished skin that is soft, supple, radiant and feels great. The wild mango butter melts into dry skin instantly, soothing any redness and the tight feeling associated with dehydrated skin. I love the scent and the nourishing boost it delivers in just one application.

Clarins-SOS-Mask-Comfort-Banner2.jpgHow should Clarins SOS Mask Comfort be applied?

  1. Layer the mask onto clean skin
  2. Apply to face and neck, avoiding eye area.
  3. Leave on for 10 minutes.
  4. Gently smooth excess product onto skin – don’t forget lips and back of your hands – or remove with a cotton pad soaked in Toning Lotion.

Hydrating – Clarins SOS Mask Hydra

Clarins-SOS-Mask-Hydra-Banner.jpgA moisturising bath for thirsty skin. This ultra-refreshing gel-cream mask helps skin find its ideal moisture level in just 10 minutes

The brand calls this a ‘moisturising bath for thirsty skin’ and it’s all due to a plant extract is known as the ‘life plant’ or ‘air plant’ called kalanchoe pinnata. With incredible regenerating properties, it grows in Madagascar and has the ability to reproduce and regenerate during a drought. So in a skin care formulation, it boosts moisture levels – fast.

Balancing – Clarins SOS Mask Pure

Clarins-SOS-Mask-Pure-Banner.jpgSkin care that brings out the radiance in mixed to oily skin. This non-drying, absorbent purifying mask with a creamy texture removes impurities and tightens pores in just 10 minutes.

Acne-prone, blemished skin will love the willow herb that is packed into this mask. It soothes redness and helps reduce shine by curbing oil production. Mattifying and soothing, it’s a great weekly treatment for helping to correct breakouts.

ClarinsMen’s must haves

ClarinsMen

Clarins launches two reformulated and repackaged men’s skincare products this June. Clarins research has found that due to higher levels of testosterone, a men’s skin is up to 25% thicker than  his female counterparts. With a naturally more dense collagen fibre network, the skin requires increased energy to produce dermal fibers.

The updated products include gymnrma, which regulates the energy of skin cells, along with bison grass (a signature ingredient of ClarinsMen), which stimulates energy regeneration. It also includes organic gojl berry to boost energy production, avocado peptides to stimulate collagen synthesis, and organic oat polyoses to tighten the skin surface.

ClarinsMen’s Revitalizing Gel fights the signs of aging such as dullness and loss of tonicity, improves hydratation with double hyaluronic acid and maintains a fresh a fresh matte appearance with zink gluconate combined with tapioca powder. The Anti-Fatique Eye Serum contains escin from horse chestnut and caffeine which stimulates lipolysis and micro stimulation. Their draining properties help to reduce dark circles and puffiness.

The serum and gel have an ice-cool feel on the skin and are quickly absorbed with no residue, meaning we can apply and go. Easy!

ClarinsMen Exfoliating Cleanser

ClarinsMen Exfoliating Cleanser video

ClarinsMen Exfoliating Cleanser is an awesome product for men that leaves skin nice and soft.

Clarins is known for its natural ingredients, and this product is no different. It’s filled with bison grass, soap root extract and lava powder, and it’s not filled with soap which is why it’s perfect for daily use. It tingles as you use it, and leaves skin with a fresh-feeling but utterly moisturized. And though it’s soap-free, it smells like a wonderfully fresh soap which is a lovely touch.

ClarinsMen Exfoliating Cleanser.jpg

Follow these steps for the correct application method. When applying:

Treat your skin well will the right exfoliator to make sure you’re left with skin that’s smooth, soft and well looked after. The Exfoliating Cleanser is probably one of the best men’s products that I’ve come across, so I think it would make a great gift for any man.
