Van Cleef & Arpels Oud Blanc N°1584400

Creating the most beautiful and precious jewelry and watches, French Maison Van Cleef & Arpels was founded by Charles Arpels and his brother-in-law Alfred Van Cleef in 1896. The pair opened their first boutique at the prestigious Place Vendôme in 1906. They gained notoriety for their use of precious stones and their expertise and innovation in stone-setting techniques.

Parisian jeweller Van Cleef & Arpels is a pioneer in its field, with a subtle mix of knowledge and experience. Maison Van Cleef & Arpels is built on strong and specific values of elegance, femininity, creativity, excellence and style. The Maison’s fragrances mirror the philosophy of the jewellery collections, bringing together an array of rare ingredients in compelling scents, which are presented in perfectly crafted flacons that possess their own Van Cleef & Arpels magic.

Beautiful Van Cleef & Arpels jewelry has adorned the bodies of royalty, prominent political figures, socialites and numerous actresses and entertainers. The Maison’s first foray into fragrances came with ‘First’ for Women, in 1978, a classic timeless floral aldehyde scent. ‘First’ has remained a popular choice and inspired a number of flankers over the years. Other notable releases include men’s classics, ‘Pour Homme’ (1978), ‘Tsar’ (1989), and the ‘Collection Extraordinaire’, a luxury line whose first fragrance was introduced in 2009.

Next month, Van Cleef & Arpels will launch Oud Blanc, a new addition to the Maison′s Collection Extraordinaire. The Maison revisits the legendary Oud Wood with Oud Blanc. Oud Blanc, offering an extraordinary reinterpretation of that legendary wood that we mistakenly thought no longer had secrets.

To approach the Oud in a different way, I was inspired by what happens when it is burned during ceremonies. It releases a blazing, enveloping smoke, laden with mystery and opulence. I tried to recreate the scent of this smoke, which is both warm, soft and translucent.

Anne Flipo, master perfumer

Oud Blanc is not a reworked version of the Oud: it’s a rediscovery. Enclosed within a white flacon, this woody oriental offers a surprising and crystal clear view of that tempered wood. Those men and women who flinch violently at the keyword ‘Oud’ may still be able to relax with the latest Collection Extraordinaire offshoot.

Although this Eau de Parfum noticeably contains eaglewood, according to master perfumer Anne Flipo this is more like burnt oud, which is supposed to be quite intense, but here it is warm and soft and has been steamed down to a translucent level. The result was an oud note that is present but absolutely soft.

There are also some gourmand notes, such as date and vanilla, whereby the latter, together with frankincense (perhaps rather benzoin), makes it look as if some light chocolate has been used. Vanilla gives the composition its sweet and creamy trait, while incense causes a whirlwind of emotions in spreading its structured and smoky facets. It also goes very well with white, light musk.

The date in turn gives the whole composition a fine, delicately fruity-sweet underline, whereas the rose appears more as if breathed in. Oud Blanc remains, as could not be expected otherwise, quite linear. And it’s no surprise that the date runs out first and oud with white musk remains most consistent.

Well – this is all done quite well, even if the wheel is not reinvented here. What we have here is an extremely pleasant autumn scent that brings together the components of soft oud with unobtrusive gourmand notes in an exemplary manner. For hardcore oud aficionados rather uninteresting – for beginners a welcome opportunity.

If a color could symbolize this research, there is no doubt that it would be white: a bright and timeless white whose purity is enhanced by a perfectly balanced, elegant and refined flacon.

Van Cleef & Arpels Oud Blanc N°1584400 is available as 75ml Eau de Parfum at selected stores worldwide. Come into the beautiful world of Van Cleef & Arpels.

These precious objects, whose craftsmanship was as important as their function, were specially designed for the first wave of ‘liberated’ women in the 1920s: women who enjoyed going out, applied make-up in public, and kept track of their numerous social engagements with a watch or a clock.

L’École-Van-Cleef-&-Arpels-Visuel_3Cigarette cases, nécessaires (vanity cases), powder compacts and other precious objects in gold enriched in ornamental or precious stones, adorned with mother-of-pearl, lacquer or translucent enamel, sometimes enhanced with miniatures of Asian or Western inspiration, were presented for the first time in New York at the Cooper Hewitt Museum on the occasion of the exhibition The Jazz Age: American Style in the 1920s.

Van Cleef & Arpels Rose Rouge is a new luxurious perfume for both men and women as part of the French Maison’s famous Collection Extraordinaire.

For its Collection Extraordinaire, the Maison Van Cleef & Arpels has drawn its focus to an exceptional flower, the Rose…  The bloom that is also known as the ‘Queen of Flowers’ has been the center of attention for centuries, and an endless source of inspiration for poets and writers, painters and perfumers. The Maison approached its new creation just like those botanists, crafting a Rose from scratch: the Van Cleef & Arpels Rose…

Van Cleef & Arpels Rose Rouge opens to impress with an aromatic bouquet of scented notes that brings up a natural/perfumed sensation on the skin. It is more of an oriental/woody perfume composed by the famous perfumer Julien Rasquinet. It has a nicely balanced opening made of fruity notes along with oriental black currant and pink pepper nicely mixed with floral/woody ingredients of Turkish rose, musk, cocoa and patchouli note.

Inside London’s Van Cleef & Arpels Boutique

Van Cleef & Arpels has reopened its New Bond Street store after an extensive renovation. The French Maison unveils the new interior design of its London boutique on New Bond Street. While the Maison’s ties with Britain are well established with a host of British collectors and admirers, its premises at 9 New Bond street date back to 2001. Fifteen years later, in a renewed tribute to this supremely refined address, Van Cleef & Arpels is unveilling a new interior design concept.

Founded in 1906 at Place Vendôme in Paris, the Maison of High Jewellery and Watchmaking offers jewellery creations, exquisite watches, and exceptional fragrances. Van Cleef & Arpels invites you into a wondrously enchanting world of unparalleled artistry and savoir faire.

Opening the door, visitors are plunged into a warm, sweeping space with an intimate atmosphere. Upon entering the boutique, a majestic staircase instantly draws the eye. Its movement is evocative of the spiral in a shell, and each step is lit up indirectly to accentuate the overall impression of lightness.

This impression is heightened by the purity of the lines and volume, the subtle colours in graduated shades of taupe, grey and beige by the elegance of the materials selected. Artificial and natural lighting combine to gently envelop the space and showcase the jewellery.

In addition to the High Jewellery collections, the first floor is dedicated to Watches for men and women and Bridal pieces. The second floor is devoted to the Alhambra® collection and to jewellery creations inspired by nature, such as the Cosmos™, Lotus and Two Butterfly collections.

Featuring a refined setting where light and contrasting materials take centre stage, the space is transformed into a poetic showcase which emphasises the creativity inherent to the High Jewellery Maison.

This quiet nod to precious materials and to the geometric purity of the Art Deco style is reiterated by elegant wooden panels featuring golden openwork patterns. The creations are displayed in wall display cases or under tall glass cloches, where the lights showcase the exquisiteness of the jewellery.

Van Cleef & Arpels restyle their New York boutique

joaillerie-boutique-van-cleef-arpels-new-york

French Maison Van Cleef & Arpels re-open the doors of its New York City flagship to reveal a glowing makeover. Designer Patrick Jouin and architect Sanjit Manku of Jouin Manku Studio redesigned the iconic French jeweler’s boutique, which has stood landmark on Fifth Avenue since 1942. Having already designed the interiors of the Maison’s Paris and Hong Kong boutiques, the Parisian design studio was called upon by Van Cleef & Arpels yet again for this project.

Van Cleef & Arpels’ New York boutique, previously a dimly lit and velvet-heavy space, Jouin Manku Studio sheds some light on the flagship’s showroom. Working with lighting designers L’Observatoire International, who also worked on the French Maisons Paris and Hong Kong boutiques, the space itself now seems to glow.

The fresh new design plays up the glow factor even more with a color scheme full of yellow and gold hues. Brass accents throughout the space add still more shine.

Using the boutique’s domed display cases as inspiration, circles and curved lines are a strong design theme. From the large circular overhead light fixtures to the wide curved staircase, the smooth lines open up the space and give it a flowing feel.

The store includes a new VIP room, a library, and, for the first time, a bridal salon titled Estelle & Alfred. This quintessential Fifth Avenue boutique offers a lighter take on grandeur.
